A simple Christmas play with a few young people and adults that is easy to do with a small cast and not much preparation. In this story, best friends, Taylor and Emily have a falling out when Emily thinks that Taylor and her sister are spreading false rumors about her brother, Tanner. Tanner isn't bothered, but Emily takes a strong stand for him and so does their mother. That pitches her against the other mother and two families are divided. Tanner is sneaky and manages to get the two friends together and they talk and work things out, but then they have to prove to their moms that all is okay, so they trick them in to getting together, too and all is resolved at the end with the kids using the Christmas story as the basis for understanding what Christian love is all about and why Jesus came and how he wants us to live. You can add songs and make it a nice program with music. The songs are not included, you need to find your own.
Written as 1 male and 7 females, (4 adults, 4 youth) but some of the genders can be changed to male. About 20-22 mins.
This skit or one act play, (good for VALENTINE'S DAY) is about marriage relationships. The scene takes place in a restaurant and there are 3 tables. The center table is back a ways and an older couple are sitting there observing the couples at the other tables. A young couple sit at one, and a middle aged couple with 2 teenagers at the other. Humorous arguments and bickering go on and the older couple discuss how alike or different they are from the other couples. Finally, they begin to tell each other how they could not have imagined being with anyone else for all these years. There is mention of the importance of making Christ the center of your marriage.
In this one act Christian play, A group of young people are having a Halloween party with costumes and Tim has dressed as a super hero because he doesn't want to be an evil looking character. They tease him for his standards and they discuss alcohol and making out and finally end up playing with a Ouija board. By now, Tim has shared his Christian views on things, so he refuses to play the game. The game ends up sending them to the cemetery to find a particular headstone, when they see someone running by and they get frightened. The police arrive and they are warned of a dangerous criminal on the loose as well as reprimanded for being out after curfew and disturbing the peace. The best part is...Tim had prayed out loud that they would be protected from evil by the blood of Jesus, and when they realized the man they saw could have been dangerous... they began to think about Tim's prayer. One girl in particular really wants to talk to Tim at the end about heaven and hell.
18 actors (16 youth, 8 male, 8 female - plus the cop and one extra) gender can be adjusted some. About 20 mins.
This is a short 15 minute THANKSGIVING DAY sketch about a family gathering for Thanksgiving dinner. It may look like your typical family: the men are glued to the TV, watching the game; Grandma wants to help, but no one lets her; the aunt has an opinion on everything including how to cook the turkey; unexpected family shows up; the child brings the dog into the dining room, etc. Finally, it is time to eat, and Grandma gets to have her say which puts the focus on what this holiday is all about: What we need to be thankful for and Who we need to be thankful to. Christ is honored at the end. This skit is almost exactly the same as the opening scene in the Christmas play, "Christmas at the Murphy's".
11 actors (6 male - one child, one teen, 5 female - one teen) About 15 minutes.
Frank and Edith are at it again! This time they are trying to keep out of the whole Christmas scene at church, but they get asked to do stuff anyway. They agree, but only because they don't want to look bad. Edith is supposed to find a baby Jesus for the manger scene, and Frank is to read something at the end of the program. What he reads is the truth of why Jesus came and for a second you think it got through to them both. But not these two... one beat later... they are right back on their own hypocritical soap box. We laugh at them because it rings so true, and sometimes it rings a little too close to home.
In this pre-EASTER skit, on a Good Friday, a group of young people from a public school are heading on a field trip to the museum. They board a subway train and find a few younger kids in their car. Those kids are heading to a play about the crucifixion of Jesus and a discussion begins about what Good Friday is all about and the real meaning of Easter. Two of the kids begin a strong witness as they share the gospel, and one boy in particular shows a great interest.
13 speaking parts (mostly teen and some younger) 6 male and 7 female (can be adjusted) About 15-16 minutes.
In this EASTER skit, Mikey is having his annual Easter Egg hunt at his place and all his friends have come. But Mikey is focused too much on the Easter Bunny and gets into a discussion with one of the other kids on what Easter is really about. Then Mikey falls asleep and in his dream, the Easter Bunny comes and tells him that he is now saved and has changed his name to Resurrection Rabbit. He explains the true meaning of Easter, and tells the kids that instead of passing out candy, he now just tells people about Jesus. The salvation message is very clear.
6 child actors (boys or girls, it doesn't matter) and one teen or adult playing the bunny. About 10-12 minutes.
This THANKSGIVING DAY skit will also work for anytime, but the story begins as siblings, Jason and Tori are complaining about what Mom is fixing for Thanksgiving dinner. The setting then switches to a couple of homeless kids who just had a meal at a shelter and were very thankful. The story goes back and forth with ungrateful kids with nice clothes, and then the opposite response when a missionary kid, Adam passes out stuff to kids in a poor country. Adam comes back home and shares with the American kids what he learned about being grateful for what we have.
This play works well for children or adults. It is the simple story of the birth of Christ with a very small cast. Easy to add extras. Adding songs to it will make a nice musical production. Easy to do with easy sets and typical Bible costumes. Mary and Joseph have the most lines and they talk about what they have witnessed and how they feel. The wise men also play a big part as this deals with their visit, too.
Another THANKSGIVING DAY skit with Jason and Tori and friends learning gratefulness. After learning that they will spend Thanksgiving serving food at the homeless shelter, they are very upset and complain. Suddenly Jason finds himself at the shelter with all his friends, and they are all homeless. All he gets for a Thanksgiving dinner is a roll, but he is so hungry, that it tastes wonderful. After living like them for a time, he finally wakes from his dream and vows to change his attitude and be grateful for the things he has.
Lizzie and Darren are getting married today, and the parents are very nervous. Darren's mother is on the verge of tears at every moment, and Lizzie's dad is afraid he will forget his big line. Darren wants to talk to Lizzie on the phone but Lizzie doesn't want to talk to him till after the wedding. Nerves are on edge and humor is all around as these two families prepare for this big change in their lives. This skit is also a scene from the larger production, "The Love Festival."
6 actors (3 males, 3 females, young adult and older) About 10 minutes.
A married couple are having a discussion about giving money to the church. The first part takes place at home as they are getting ready to go to the church for a pledge dinner. The second part takes place at the dinner at their table as they discuss how much to pledge. A lot of the arguments as to why one might not want to give to the church are brought up in the sketch and also the scriptural reasons as to why you should. Humorous and serious all at the same time.
Two actors. (male and female) Only about 12-13 minutes.
